How do you register?

You must be on the clearance list to receive a permission number! If you are on the clearance list, you will receive an email alerting you to this possibility. Read the email carefully for the date to pick up your permission number. You must pick up a permission number in person.

When can I get my permission number?

We will start giving out permission numbers to qualified students in 909 Soc Sci Bldg on the first day of registration for next semester. The office hours are 8am-4:30pm. Be sure to have your chosen section selected before stopping into the office. Permission numbers are given out on a 1stcome, 1stserved basis only. Therefore, come in early to be sure you get the section of your preference before those seats are gone! The permission number will reserve your seat until you are able to register. Remember that the folks at the front desk will just be getting into the office for the day, so be respectful and give them time to get situated and turn on their computers. They will know what you are there for and will let you know when they are ready to give out the numbers.

What if I am out of town on the first day of registration?

If you will not be available to pick up your permission number, you will need to assign a designate to pick up your permission number for you. If you choose to have someone pick up your permission number, you will need to notify Sociology Advising by sending an email from your University of Minnesota email address, with your student ID# and the name of your designate. We will be checking ID’s, so be sure to have them bring it along!
