The purpose of the Barbara Newsome Award is to provide financial support for Sociology undergraduates to engage in unpaid internships in the community related to their major. Recipients of the award will be students in good standing, majoring in Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. The award provides a $1500 stipend for a minimum of 120 internship hours. For more information on eligibility and applying, please see CLA Undergraduate Internship Grant.
We are now accepting applications for Newsome awards for Summer 2013! You must apply by Wednesday, June 12th. To apply, visit the CLA Undergraute Internship Grant link just above.
Many Sociology students would like to take advantage of an intensive research experience, but are often unable to do so without additional financial support. Through the generous support of an anonymous donor, the University of Minnesota Department of Sociology will be awarding up to two undergraduate research awards of $2,250 to senior Sociology majors conducting original research as part of their capstone projects.
To qualify, applicants must be a declared Sociology major in good academic standing and enrolled for credit in Sociology 4966W (Major Project Seminar), Sociology 4977V-4978V (Honors Proseminar), or an independent study arrangement under the supervision of a sociology faculty member (usually Soc 4094W Directed Research). Application materials are now available and the due date is May 10th, 2013. See Bobby or Nicole for materials.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities program supports research or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. Financial awards of up to $1700 are offered twice a year to full time undergraduates. These grants provide students an excellent opportunity to receive a stipend for work on a research project of their own design.
This site lists over 180,000 scholarships, grants and loans that are available to students. More than 40,000 students enter this site each day.
