The mission of the Sociology Undergraduate Advising is to promote students’ success in the pursuit of their Sociology major. Sociology Advising offers advising and events that meet students’ developmental needs, support their search for fields of study appropriate to their goals and potential, and facilitate their academic progress. It also encourages the development of relationships between students and Sociology Advising, faculty, and staff.
Students are often confused about the reasons they have multiple advisors. Your college advisor will keep you on track with your overall degree requirements, and will ultimately perform your degree clearance. It is very important to check in with them often to be sure there are no surprises and that you stay on track for graduation. You college advisor is also a great way to hear about resources on campus that will enhance your learning and your overall experience at the University.
Your major advisor works specifically with your major. Major advisors become experts in the discipline for which they do advising. They can give you guidance in the major requirements and curriculum, help you consider your post-graduation goals in that specific area, and have background and alumni stories about career and graduate school details within your major direction.
Please be sure to connect with Sociology Advising for questions you may have about any area of Sociology or the Public Health Minor.
