Declaring A Minor in Sociology
Like the sociology major, there are two options for minors: the General Option and the Law, Criminology, and Deviance Option. You must complete at least three courses in sociology before you can declare your minor. All of the minor credits must be completed on the A/F grade basis.

- Soc 3701 Social Theory (4 cr.)
- Soc 3811 Basic Soc Stats OR Soc 3801 Research Methods (4 cr.)
- Two upper-division sociology electives
Law/Criminology/Deviance (16 cr. + intro)

- Soc 3701 Sociological Theory OR Soc 3811 Basic Social Stats OR Soc 3801 Research Methods 4 cr.
- One upper-division, NON-LCD elective -- Soc 3/4xxx, not Soc 31xx or 41xx -- (3 cr.)
- Two upper-division, LCD electives (Soc 41xx; 3 cr. each)
To declare your minor, you will need to fill out an application. You can pick up a copy of this form either in the Sociology Department's main office in 909 Social Sciences or download an application form here. Once you have completed the form, attach a copy of your APAS report or current unofficial transcript and bring it to 909 Social Sciences. Your APAS report will be the most comprehensive if you took sociology courses anywhere outside the university. You can print an updated copy of your APAS report from One Stop. (Both your transcript and your Student Course Report are available in the Student Services Office in the West Bank Skyway, between Blegen and Willey Halls).
Your application will be processed within one month. A copy of your minor program form will be sent to your college office. We will notify you when this has been completed along with a copy of the minor program form.
Transfer students must complete at least two sociology courses in our department.
