Study Abroad

As a student intending to major in Sociology, you are encouraged to consider weaving in a study abroad experience to your program of study. There are hundreds of study abroad programs that are open to you. The Learning Abroad Center has fantastic resources on line to assist you in choosing the program right for you. Consider a short term global seminar or a full year long program. I recommend that you start by visiting their web site at the link above and specifically their academic planning web page. We also have a Sociology Major Advising sheet you can down load from their academic planning web page that can provide further details on working study abroad courses back in to your Sociology major.

If you decide to study abroad, please try to obtain syllabi for Sociology courses to be evaluated before you depart and you should discuss these courses with the undergraduate advisor when you come to fill out your Academic Planning for Study Abroad form. If the course(s) you'd like to have applied toward your major have previously been evaluated and approved by our department, the advisor will include these courses on your study abroad form. This process of evaluating courses takes at least two weeks, so the earlier you can plan and get materials the better.

Are you interested in talking with someone who has visited a country you are considering? Students in the Social Science Community want to share their study abroad experiences with other students. View the names of the students, their major(s), the country they visited, and their study abroad program(s). Also, more importantly, they have submitted their e-mail addresses so you can contact them directly and ask those all so crucial questions about their experiences.
