I am interested in the intersection of Sociology and Mental Health and in particular how understandings of race and gender shape experiences with mental health interventions. My current research is examing how individuals exiting a range of insitutional settings (mental health, criminal justice, military and foster care) make sense of their transition home in terms of their diagnoses, particular at at time when MI is often linked to genetic causes. I am interested in exploring how stratified individuals see the social utility of their diagnoses as they confront the struggles of returning back to their communities. I hope to link these narratives to quantitative data on attitudes toward mental health and stigma.
