Narrative

My dissertation research explores the association between parental unemployment and children's educational attainment in early adulthood. I focus on three potential moderators: child age at the time of parent unemployment (with a focus on siblings); family socioeconomic status prior to job loss; and the number and duration of exposure to parental job loss. In this project I draw on sociological theories and prior empirical research from economics, public policy and child development in addition to sociology.
