Contexts aims to make sociological research dynamic for and interesting to the educated lay reader. Drawing from sociology and its related fields, Contexts includes feature articles, photography, summaries of the latest social science research, news about the field, and book and culture reviews of today's provocative topics. Contributors challenge outdated ideas, stimulate creative thinking, and start lively debate.
Since 2008, Contexts has been edited by Doug Hartmann and Chris Uggen at the University of Minnesota. Housed in the Department of Sociology and receiving financial and institutional support from the College of Liberal Arts and the Office for Public Engagement, Contexts has thrived in it’s new Midwest environment.
Previous Minnesota issues: Previous Minnesota issues: Winter 2008, Spring 2008, Summer 2008, Fall 2008, Winter 2009, Spring 2009 and Summer 2009.

In addition to the print publication, contexts.org includes additional content for each issue as well as a community of sociology blogs, Contexts Blogs.
Blogs include the Contexts Crawler, which provides daily snapshots of sociologists in the news, and Sociological Images, which collects images and videos hungry for sociological analysis and perfect for classroom use. These two are just a start: we've got big plans for the next year or two!
