    Research Interests

I am interested in housing and homelessness; poverty and inequality; and research methods (especially culturally appropriate and/or culturally specific methods). Two areas of academic research I am currently working on and plan to continute to examine are: 1) disparities in homelessness between Whites and American Indians and 2) assessing the progress of low-income families toward self-sufficiency.

    Other Research Interests and Experience

I have a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. My areas of concentration are nonprofit management and policy analysis. I completed a capstone project (Plan B Master's thesis) on the topic of how access to textbooks, parental involvement, and suspension rates affect the academic outcomes of middle school students in Minneapolis Public Schools.

I have worked for Wilder Research which is part of the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, since 2001. As a part of my work at Wilder, I conduct program evaluations, needs assessments, community indicator studies, and other types of community and social research. Some of the studies I have recently worked on at Wilder include: the statewide study of homelessness, a housing needs assessment for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, a review of statewide data on children not living at home for Our Children: Our Future (a nonprofit organization), annual program evaluations of two Minnesota Initiative Foundations, and a survey of American Indian elders regarding their housing needs and plans for the American Indian Housing Community Development Corporation.
